RM 2RGA6HE – WW2 - Junkers Ju 88, a German Luftwaffe twin-engined multi-role combat aircraft en route to bomb London on 9 September 1940 - attacked by Spitfires of No.602 squadron (both engines disabled) and ditched/crash-landed on the beach at the edge of the sea just off Pagham, Essex.
The Ju 88D-4 was a tropical version of the Ju 88D-2. At first, such aircraft were designated Ju 88D-2 Tgor. . The last variant of the Ju 88D aircraft was the Ju 88D-5, powered by Jumo 211G or 211H engines. The VDM screw, which was used before, was replaced with a Junker VS 11 screw. Two cameras were installed on the reconnaissance aircraft.
In the conversion of about 100 Ju 88 bombers, the crew and defensive weapons positions were all removed from the fuselage. A simple net of struts was attached to the bomber's spine, to which the fighter section was added. The first prototype was a Bf 109E-4 fighter aboard a Junkers Ju 88A model series bomber.

In 1942, a Ju88A-4 airframe formed the basis of a prototype and was tested with a 75mm (2.95in) KwK39 cannon mounted in a larger underbelly fairing. A small number were ordered as the Ju88P-1, armed with a 75mm (2.95in) Pak40 cannon and a 7.92mm (0.31in) MG81 forward-firing machinegun for the pilot to aim the cannon.
